Full System Diagnostics On 1996 To 2002 Mercedes-Benz With The 38 Pin Port
Older Mercedes-Benz models keep a round 38 pin diagnostic socket under the hood, and the 16 pin port in the cabin, when there is one, only talks to the engine. This adapter connects that 38 pin socket to your YOUCANIC UCAN-II Pro so the scanner can reach every control module in the car: transmission, ABS, SRS, climate, body, instrument cluster and more. Plug it in and scan. No power supply, no setup.
Does Your Mercedes-Benz Have The 38 Pin Port? Check First.
Open the hood and look for a round black socket with a screw on cap, usually on the driver side near the firewall or the fender. If it is there, you need this adapter for anything beyond engine codes. If your car only has the 16 pin port in the cabin, you do not need it; the UCAN-II Pro plugs in directly.

What The Adapter Unlocks
- ✅ Fault codes on every system. Transmission, ABS, SRS and airbag, body control, instrument cluster, climate control and more, not only the engine.
- ✅ ABS and brake diagnostics. Wheel speed sensor faults, pump and control module errors, before they become a safety problem.
- ✅ SRS and airbag. Read and clear the airbag light, find the sensor or seat occupancy fault behind it, verify the system after a repair.
- ✅ Transmission control module. Shift complaints, transmission codes, live temperatures and solenoid status. Reset adaptations after a conductor plate or valve body job.
- ✅ Live data across modules. Coolant temperature, fuel trims, oxygen sensors, throttle position and the data the body modules report.
- ✅ Actuation tests. Command components directly to prove they work instead of guessing.
- ✅ Service reset. Clear the service interval indicator from the scanner.
- ✅ Body and comfort systems. Door modules, seat memory, central locking and the other electronics a generic tool never sees on these cars.
Why The 16 Pin Port Is Not Enough On These Cars
Between 1996 and 2002 Mercedes-Benz put its full diagnostic bus on a proprietary 38 pin connector under the hood. The 16 pin OBD2 port in the cabin exists to satisfy emissions rules, so it carries the engine and little else. Plug any scanner into that port and the best you get is engine codes; the transmission, ABS, SRS and body modules stay invisible.
This adapter is the bridge. It connects the 38 pin socket to the UCAN-II Pro so the scanner can identify and talk to every module on the car. For an independent shop, an enthusiast with a W210 or R129 in the garage, or an owner who wants to know why the airbag light is on, it turns a limited engine scan into a full system diagnostic.
About The Round Power Plug
The adapter has a round power plug on it. You do not need to connect anything to it. No external power is required. Connect the 38 pin end to the socket under the hood, connect the other end to the UCAN-II Pro, and scan.
Compatible Vehicles

From Owners Using It
7 reviews, 5.0 average, all verified buyers
"This adapter worked perfectly, enabling the UCAN-II scanner to read all modules on my 2001 CLK55."
"I immediately plugged into my W210 E320 to reset the TCM after doing a conductor plate job. It clears faults rather quickly compared to an older Autel tool I was using prior."
"Works much better than my iCarsoft MBII for Mercedes with their adapter. Overall I'm very happy with my YOUCANIC scanner."
"Works perfectly for my 2000 SL500 to read SRS code and reset for diagnosis."

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need this adapter?
If your Mercedes-Benz has the round 38 pin socket under the hood and you want anything beyond engine codes, yes. If your car only has the 16 pin port in the cabin, no; the UCAN-II Pro connects directly.
Will it work with another scanner?
No. It is made for the UCAN-II Pro and sold to YOUCANIC scanner owners. It does not function with other scan tools, and we cannot support it on them.
Does it come with the UCAN-II Pro?
No. The UCAN-II Pro ships with the 16 pin cable and the FCA 12+8 adapter. The 38 pin adapter is a separate purchase for owners of older Mercedes-Benz models.
Do I have to plug the round power connector into something?
No. Leave it unconnected. The adapter needs no external power.
Which systems can I reach with it?
Every module the car has on its diagnostic bus: engine, transmission, ABS, SRS, climate, instrument cluster, body and comfort modules. Exact coverage depends on the model and year.
My car is from 1995 or earlier. Will it work?
Maybe. Some pre 1996 cars have the socket and limited module support. Email your VIN to support@youcanic.com and we will tell you before you buy.
Can I reset the airbag light or the transmission adaptation with it?
Yes, through the UCAN-II Pro. Owners use it for exactly that: SRS codes on an R129, transmission adaptation reset after a conductor plate job on a W210.
