Porsche Diagnostic Scanners and Adapters

QUICK ANSWER FOR PORSCHE OWNERS

  • For a Porsche, the YOUCANIC UCAN-II Pro is the full system scanner with lifetime free updates; the UCAN-GO reads engine codes only.
  • The Porsche Taycan and the newest Panamera, Cayenne and Macan EV run their diagnostics over Ethernet and need the DoIP adapter; the 986, 987 and 981 Boxster and Cayman, the 996, 997 and 991 911, the Cayenne 9PA and 92A and the Macan plug straight into the 16 pin port.
  • On a Porsche the UCAN-II Pro runs the PSM brake Bleed, the Electric Parking Brake service function, Oil Reset, Steering Angle Sensor calibration, Tire Pressure Monitoring System functions, Level Control valve tests and bleed, DME active tests and Reset adaption values.
  • The UCAN-II Pro does not program Porsche keys, load software or run the online functions of the PIWIS dealer system.
  • The Porsche coverage database lists the 996, 997, 991 and 992 911, the GT2, GT3 and Carrera GT, the 986, 987 and 981 Boxster and Cayman, the Cayenne 9PA and 92A, the Panamera, Macan, 918 Spyder and Taycan.
  • You can rent the UCAN-II Pro for a week with a refundable deposit, and every purchase has 31 day returns with no questions asked.

Written by the YOUCANIC technicians in Towson, Maryland, from the UCAN-II Pro coverage database and our own shop work. Updated October 24, 2026.

A Taycan carries more than fifty control units, a 996 GT2 eight, and the parts store code reader talks to one of them on either car. The PSM brake bleed, the parking brake service position for rear pads, the oil service reset, the steering angle sensor after an alignment, the level control fault on an air sprung Cayenne: every one of those lives behind a module the cheap tool cannot see. The tools below are what we use in our own shop in Maryland to reach every module on a Porsche, run the service functions the dealer charges an hour of labor for, and get the car back on the road. The coverage database behind the UCAN-II Pro lists the 996, 997, 991 and 992 generation 911, the GT2 and GT3, the Carrera GT, the 986, 987 and 981 Boxster and Cayman, the Cayenne 9PA and 92A, the Panamera, the Macan, the 918 Spyder and the Taycan. Pick by what you need to do, then check the one adapter rule by model.

Which Scanner Do I Need For A Porsche?

CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ONLY
YOUCANIC UCAN-GO Bluetooth OBD2 adapter with live gauge dashboard on a phone

UCAN-GO

Reads and clears engine codes from your phone and gives you a live gauge dashboard. It does not see the PSM, parking brake, airbag, level control or body modules, and it cannot reset a service interval. Right if the only light you care about is the engine one.

EVERY MODULE, EVERY SERVICE FUNCTION
YOUCANIC UCAN-II Pro 7 inch tablet scanner with wireless Bluetooth VCI adapter

UCAN-II Pro, new or open box

Full system, bidirectional, lifetime free updates. Reads and clears every control unit, runs the DME and PSM active tests and the Porsche service functions: brake bleed, electric parking brake, oil reset, steering angle sensor, level control bleed and valve tests, tire pressure monitoring, reset adaption values and basic coding. The tool to own if you keep a Porsche running.

Rent the UCAN-II Pro for a week

Same scanner, shipped both ways free, with a refundable deposit that comes back when the scanner does. For the one brake bleed, parking brake pad change or airbag code you need done once.

Which Porsche Models Need An Adapter?

YOUCANIC DoIP adapter for UCAN-II scannersThe Taycan and the newest Panamera, Cayenne and Macan EV run their diagnostics over Ethernet. Add the DoIP adapter and the scanner reaches every module on them. Without it, most control units on these cars stay hidden and you see little more than the engine.

Everything else plugs straight into the 16 pin port with no adapter: the 996, 997 and 991 generation 911, the 986, 987 and 981 Boxster and Cayman, the Cayenne 9PA and 92A, the first Panamera and the Macan in the database. If you have a recent Panamera or Cayenne and the scanner does not show every module, email support@youcanic.com with the VIN before you buy an adapter.

What The UCAN-II Pro Does On A Porsche

  • ✓ Reads and clears codes in every control unit: 52 modules on a Taycan, from the DME and PSM brake electronics to the gateway, chassis control (PASM), rear axle steering, rear spoiler, rear lid and the rear end electronics (BCM2); 8 on a 996 GT2, DME, ABS, airbag, air conditioning, alarm, instrument cluster, PCM2 and HBA
  • ✓ Bleed, Fill, Fluid fill mode and System check on the PSM brake electronics after a caliper, line or hydraulic unit replacement
  • ✓ Electric Parking Brake service function and Service position for rear pads and rotors on the cars with the electric brake
  • ✓ Oil Reset, Maintenance interval, Milage since last inspection and Time since last inspection in the instrument cluster, plus Reset with tool
  • ✓ Steering Angle Sensor calibration and Calibration routines after a rack, column or alignment job, and the Battery function after a battery change
  • ✓ Level Control on the air sprung cars: FA and RA directional valve activation, FA and RA pressure control valve activation, Safety valve activation, Position 1 to 4, Bleed and System check
  • ✓ DME active tests: Tank vent valve, radiator fans, Fuel pump 1 and 2, Water pump control, Inlet and Exhaust camshaft, Valve lift adjustment, Secondary air pump, Boost pressure control valve, Exhaust gas flaps, Leakage diagnosis pump
  • ✓ Reset adaption values, System adaption, Basic coding, Customer-specific settings, Vehicle variants, Parameterization and Control unit replacement routines, with Coding without rules, Backup codes and Restore codes on the modules that carry them
  • ✓ Live data with graphing and recording, plus TPMS: the Tire Pressure Monitoring System function, Write wheel set and the U360 replacement sensor programmed from the tablet

Service Functions By Job On A Porsche

On the tablet you pick the control unit, then the function category, then the routine. Porsche uses four categories in the coverage database: Active Test, Special Functions, Hot Functions (the common service resets) and Programming (local coding). These are the routines the database lists, grouped by the job you are doing, named as they appear on the tablet. Coverage varies by model and year, so check yours before you order.

Job Routines in the coverage database Where it lives on the tablet
Brakes, PSM and parking brake Bleed, Fill, Fluid fill mode, Valve clocking, System check, Electric Parking Brake, Service position, Static test, Function test sensors PSM, Brake electronics (PSM) and Parking brake › Active Test, Special Functions and Hot Functions
Engine, fuel and emissions Tank vent valve, Quantity control valve, Intake pipe switchover, Activation of radiator fan 1 and 2, Fuel pump 1 and 2, Water pump control, Exhaust camshaft, Inlet camshaft, Valve lift adjustment bank 1 and 2, Leakage diagnosis pump, Secondary air pump bank 1 and 2, Boost pressure control valve, Exhaust gas flaps, Coolant run-on pump, Reset adaption values, Short test, Oil Reset, Diesel Particle Filter, Maintenance interval DME and Engine electronics (DME) › Active Test, Special Functions and Hot Functions
Transmission and drivetrain Reset adaption values, System adaption, Control unit replacement, Operating data, Coding without rules, Backup codes, Restore codes Tiptronic, Transmission control, Selector lever and Rear differential lock › Special Functions and Programming
Steering, suspension and driver assistance Steering Angle Sensor, Calibration, FA directional valve activation, RA directional valve activation, FA pressure control valve activation, RA pressure control valve activation, Safety valve activation, Position 1, Position 2, Position 3, Position 4, Individual tests, Synchronized tests, Bleed, System check Level Control, PDCC/ORS, Steering aid, Rear axle steering, Front axle lift and Lane Change Assistant › Active Test, Special Functions and Hot Functions
Body, comfort, lighting and climate Open rear lid, Close rear lid, Customer-specific settings, Vehicle variants, Basic coding, Parameterization, Interior monitoring, Sleep mode, Wake-Up guardian, First start, Nominal and Actual configuration, Installation list, Battery Headlight CU left and right, Air Conditioning, Auxiliary Heater, Rear/Doors, Tailgate, Targa Roof, Steering Col. Switch, Front end electronics and Rear end electronics › Active Test and Special Functions
TPMS and tires Tire Pressure Monitoring System, Write wheel set, Reset with tool TPM and Tyre pressure monitoring › Special Functions and Hot Functions

The database lists about 2,900 Porsche active test entries, 600 special function entries, 90 programming entries and 45 hot function entries. The Taycan carries the most modules; the 996 era cars carry the fewest, so expect the DME, ABS, airbag, cluster and climate functions there and the full list on the newer cars.

What The Scanner Sees On A Porsche

Two vehicles pulled from the coverage database, with the control units the UCAN-II Pro lists on each. Every unit gets fault codes, live data and, where the database shows it, active tests and special functions.

Vehicle in the database Control units Examples of what it lists
Porsche Taycan (Y1A) 52 Engine electronics (DME), Brake electronics (PSM), Brake boost, Airbag, Instrument cluster, Tire Pressure Monitoring, Distance sensor (ACC), Assistance systems, Chassis control (PASM), Rear axle steering, Rear spoiler, Rear lid, Remote controlled parking, Gateway, Exterior acoustics (eSound), Rear end electronics (BCM2)
Porsche 911 GT2 (996) 8 DME, ABS, Airbag, Air conditioning, Alarm system, Instrument cluster, PCM2, HBA

The 996 is the oldest car in the list, so eight modules is the floor; the Cayenne, Panamera and Macan sit between the two rows, with Level Control, PDCC, Park Assistant and the door and roof modules added.

Symptom, Then The Routine That Fixes It

  • Spongy pedal after a caliper, line or PSM unit replacement: the Bleed routine in the PSM cycles the pump and valves while you bleed; Fill and Fluid fill mode after a dry system.
  • Rear pads on a Cayenne, Panamera or Macan with the electric parking brake: the Electric Parking Brake hot function and Service position before you start, then back out of service position when done.
  • Service or oil change reminder still on after the oil change: Oil Reset in the hot functions, then check Maintenance interval and Milage since last inspection in the cluster.
  • PSM warning and a steering angle fault after an alignment or rack job: the Steering Angle Sensor hot function, then a short drive to confirm the light stays off.
  • Air sprung Cayenne or Panamera sitting low or uneven after a strut or compressor job: Level Control Bleed and System check, then the Position 1 to 4 tests and the directional and pressure control valve activations to confirm each corner responds.
  • Tire pressure light after new wheels or sensors: Write wheel set and the Tire Pressure Monitoring System function; or program the U360 sensor to the old ID first.

What It Will Not Do, So You Know Before You Buy

Programming a new control unit, software updates, key programming, component protection and anything else that needs a live connection to the Porsche server are PIWIS and dealer jobs, and no aftermarket scanner does them. The coding the UCAN-II Pro does is the local kind the database calls Basic coding and Coding without rules, with Backup codes and Restore codes to put a module back the way it was. For diagnosis, live data, active tests and the service functions above, which is what most owners and independent shops actually do week to week, it covers it at one price with no renewal fee. The database lists the older cars with fewer modules than the new ones, so if you need a specific routine on a specific car, check your car or email support@youcanic.com with your VIN and the function you need before you order.

Frequently Asked Questions

I have a Porsche Taycan. What do I need?

The UCAN-II Pro plus the DoIP adapter. The Taycan runs its diagnostics over Ethernet, and without the adapter most of its 52 modules stay hidden. The same applies to the newest Panamera, Cayenne and the Macan EV.

Can I change rear pads on a Cayenne or Macan with the electric parking brake?

Yes. The Electric Parking Brake hot function and Service position release the motors so the pistons can be pushed back, and the same menu puts the brake back in service when you are done. The parking brake guide covers the sequence.

Will it reset the oil service reminder on my 997 or Boxster?

Yes. Oil Reset is one of the Porsche hot functions, and the instrument cluster also shows Maintenance interval, Milage since last inspection and Time since last inspection so you can confirm the counter moved.

Does it program keys or code new modules on a Porsche?

No. Key programming, component protection and software updates need the Porsche server through PIWIS. The UCAN-II Pro does diagnosis, live data, active tests, local coding and the service functions listed above.

Can I rent it for one job?

Yes. The rental is a one week rental plus a refundable deposit that comes back when the scanner does, shipped free both ways. Most Porsche renters want a brake bleed, a parking brake pad job or an airbag light cleared.

How do I know my exact Porsche and function are covered?

Use the coverage checker by model and module, or call 1-888-959-4265, Monday to Friday 9 AM to 4 PM Eastern, and a technician will tell you plainly. If it does not do what you need, we will say so. Every scanner also comes with 31 day returns, no questions asked.
