ABS and VSC, the hybrid brake system, the airbag module, the electric parking brake, the blind spot radars and the body modules all live behind the same port. The tools below are what we use in our own shop in Maryland to reach every module on a Toyota, run the bleeding and zero point routines the dealer charges an hour of labor for, and clear the light for good. What The Scanner Sees On A Toyota

Two vehicles pulled from the coverage database, with the control units the UCAN-II Pro lists on each. Every unit gets fault codes, live data and, where the database shows it, active tests and special functions.

The Mirai is a hydrogen sedan, but its module set is the current Toyota electrical architecture that the Camry, Corolla, RAV4, Highlander and the hybrids share, which is why it is a useful worst case. The Yaris R sedan was built with Mazda electronics, so its module names read differently; the database carries it under Toyota all the same.

Symptom, Then The Routine That Fixes It

• ABS and VSC lights after an alignment, steering rack or sensor replacement: Reset Memory, then Test Mode and Signal Check in ABS/VSC/TRAC (the zero point calibration for the yaw rate and deceleration sensors).
• Spongy pedal after a brake actuator, line or caliper job, including the hybrids: Air Bleeding and VSC Line Air Bleeding, with ECB Utility on the electronically controlled brake systems.
• Rear pads on a model with the electric parking brake: EPB Full Release before the pistons go back, Brake Pad Residual Thickness Write when you are done.
• Blend door or mode door actuator replaced and the climate control hunts: Servomotor Initialization in the Air Conditioner module.
• Blind spot warning after a rear bumper or radar bracket repair: BSM Beam Axis Adjustment and Beam Axis Inspection on the Master, Slave, A and B units.
• Speedometer off after a wheel and tire size change: Tire Circumference Setting.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will it bleed the brakes on my Prius after a brake actuator or line replacement?

Yes. Air Bleeding, VSC Line Air Bleeding and ECB Utility are listed for the ABS/VSC/TRAC and brake modules, which is how you get the air out of a Toyota hybrid brake system without a dealer visit. The ABS bleeding guide explains the routine.

The VSC and ABS lights came on after an alignment. Can it do the zero point calibration?

Yes. Reset Memory, Test Mode and Signal Check in the ABS/VSC/TRAC module are the zero point routine for the yaw rate and deceleration sensors, and the usual fix after steering or suspension work on a Camry, RAV4, Highlander or Tacoma.

Can I change rear pads on a newer RAV4 or Camry with the electric parking brake?

Yes. EPB Full Release retracts the motors so the caliper pistons can be pushed back, and Brake Pad Residual Thickness Write resets the wear value when you are done. The parking brake guide walks through it.

Does it program keys or smart keys?

No. Key programming needs the Toyota server through Techstream. The UCAN-II Pro does diagnosis, live data, active tests, calibrations and the service functions listed above.
