Your Car Pairs Your Phone For Calls But Not For Music. This Fixes That.
Mercedes, Audi and VW models from around 2008 to 2013 came with a factory media socket for an iPod or a USB stick, and Bluetooth for phone calls only. The YOUCANIC 1000 plugs into that socket and streams any app on your phone through the factory speakers. No wiring, no FM transmitter static, no AUX cable across the console. Plug it in, pair once, press play.
Check For The Socket Before You Order
This adapter plugs into one specific factory socket. Mercedes calls it the Media Interface (option code 518, 2009 and newer). Audi calls it the AMI, the Audi Music Interface. VW, Skoda and Seat call it the MDI, the Media Device Interface. It is a small rectangular socket, usually in the glovebox or inside the center armrest, and the car's original iPod, USB or AUX cable plugs into it. If your car has that socket, this adapter takes the place of that cable.
If your car has only a round 3.5 mm AUX jack, or a plain USB port and no media socket, this is not the right part. Not sure? Email a photo of the socket and your VIN to support@youcanic.com before you order and we will tell you.
Setup In Two Minutes
- Find the socket in the glovebox or center armrest and unplug the factory iPod or USB cable from it.
- Plug the YOUCANIC 1000 in. It runs on the socket's own 5 V supply; the blue LED comes on.
- On the head unit, select the media source that belongs to the socket: Media Interface on a Mercedes, AMI on an Audi, MDI on a VW, Skoda or Seat.
- On your phone, open Bluetooth and pair with the adapter. A voice prompt confirms the connection.
- Press play in any app. The sound comes through the car's speakers and the car's volume knob works as it always did.
Two phones can be paired, so a passenger can take over the music without pairing from scratch. Prefer a USB stick? Plug one with MP3 files into the adapter's USB port; the LED turns red and the car plays from the stick.
What It Does, And What It Does Not
It does
- ✅ Stream stereo audio from any app over Bluetooth A2DP, through the factory amplifier and speakers.
- ✅ Pair with two phones and switch between them.
- ✅ Play MP3 files from a USB drive plugged into its USB port, with control from the head unit.
- ✅ Charge a phone through the same USB port.
- ✅ Stay out of sight in the glovebox or armrest; nothing on the dash, nothing to unplug when you park.
It does not
- ✖ Handle phone calls. It is a music adapter. Calls stay on the car's own Bluetooth phone system, if the car has one.
- ✖ Promise song titles on the dash screen. The car treats it as a connected media device; pick tracks on your phone.
- ✖ Fit a car without the media socket. See the check above.
- ✖ Need a tool or a wire cut. It unplugs as easily as it plugs in and leaves the car exactly as it was.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I know if my car has the socket?
Open the glovebox and the center armrest and look for a small rectangular socket with a factory iPod, USB or AUX cable plugged into it. Mercedes owners can also check the option list for code 518, Media Interface. If you only find a round 3.5 mm AUX jack, the car does not have the socket.
Will it make and take phone calls?
No. It streams music and any other audio from the phone. Calls stay on the car's own Bluetooth phone connection if it has one. Many owners run both at once: the car's Bluetooth for calls, the YOUCANIC 1000 for music.
Will song titles show on the car's screen?
Do not count on it. The head unit sees a connected media device and plays what the adapter sends. Pick songs and playlists on your phone. The car's volume control and the factory speakers work exactly as before.
My Audi A4, A5, Q5 or Q7 is not on the list. Will it work?
If the car has the AMI socket, there is a good chance, but we list only what we have confirmed. Email the model, year and a photo of the socket to support@youcanic.com before you order and we will answer the same business day.
Can two people connect?
Yes. The adapter pairs with two phones, so the driver and a passenger can trade off without going through pairing again.
Can I play music from a USB stick?
Yes. Plug a USB drive loaded with MP3 files into the adapter's USB port. The LED turns red and the car plays from the drive with control from the head unit.
Will it charge my phone?
Yes, through the USB port on the adapter, while you stream.
How does it compare to the Bovee Tune2Air?
Both plug into the same factory socket and do the same job: Bluetooth music through the factory system. We have not bench tested the two side by side, so we will not make claims beyond what owners write in the reviews, several of whom chose this one over the Bovee on price.
What does the warranty cover?
