Battery, Starter Or Alternator? Know In Two Minutes.

The YOUCANIC Voltcheck Pro clips onto any 12 V or 24 V battery and tells you its state of health and charge, then tests the starter while you crank and the alternator while the engine runs. Clear GOOD, RECHARGE or REPLACE results, no interpretation needed.

12 V and 24 V
Cars, trucks, RVs, boats, heavy equipment
100 to 2000 CCA
Flooded, AGM, gel and deep cycle
3 tests
Battery, cranking, charging with ripple
No batteries
Powered by the battery it is testing, down to 1.5 V

Stop Replacing Good Parts

A car that cranks slowly or will not start has three usual suspects, and they are easy to confuse. A voltmeter shows 12.6 V on a battery that collapses under load. A new battery dies in a week because the alternator was the real problem. The Voltcheck Pro measures each one directly, under real load, in the order a technician would.

Battery Test

Enter the battery's rated CCA, pick the type and standard printed on the label, and the tester reports measured CCA, internal resistance, state of health and state of charge. Result: GOOD, GOOD RECHARGE, REPLACE or BAD CELL.

Works on the bench or in the vehicle, and on a battery too flat to start the car.

Cranking Test

Start the engine with the clamps on. The tester records the lowest voltage during the crank and how long it took. A battery that tests GOOD but drops below spec while cranking points to the starter or a cable, not the battery.

Charging Test

With the engine running, read charging voltage at idle and at about 2,500 RPM, with and without electrical load, plus AC ripple. High ripple means a failing diode inside the alternator, which a plain voltmeter never shows.

How To Test In Two Minutes

  1. Engine off. Clip red to the positive post and black to the negative post. The tester powers up from the battery.
  2. Choose Battery Test, select in vehicle or out of vehicle, then the battery type (flooded, AGM flat plate, AGM spiral, gel, EFB) and the rating standard on the label (CCA, CA, MCA, JIS, DIN, IEC, EN, SAE, GB).
  3. Enter the rated CCA from the battery label. The result appears in a few seconds.
  4. Choose Cranking Test and start the engine. The tester captures the voltage drop and crank time automatically.
  5. Choose Charging Test. Follow the prompts to raise RPM and switch on headlights and blower, then read the loaded and unloaded voltages and the ripple.

Tips from owners and our technicians

Test a battery that has sat for a few hours. Right after a drive the surface charge reads high; turn on the headlights for a minute first if you must test warm.

Clean the posts. A film of corrosion adds resistance and makes a good battery read weak.

The cable is about 3 feet, so for the charging test a helper to hold RPM makes it easier. Alone, set the tester on the fender where you can see it from the driver's seat, or use a throttle hold.

What The Results Mean

Result What it means What to do
GOOD Battery is healthy and charged Nothing. Retest before winter or a long trip
GOOD RECHARGE Battery is healthy but low on charge Charge fully and retest. If it keeps happening, run the charging test and check for a parasitic drain
REPLACE Measured CCA is well below rating or internal resistance is high Replace the battery. Register the new one with the UCAN-II Pro on vehicles that require it
BAD CELL One cell has shorted or opened Replace. Do not attempt to charge
Cranking voltage low Battery is fine but voltage sags too far while cranking Check starter draw, battery cables and grounds
Charging voltage low or high, or ripple high Alternator or regulator is not doing its job Check belt tension and connections first, then the alternator. High ripple points to a diode

Why You Want This Even If You Own A UCAN-II Pro

The UCAN-II Pro reads the voltage the vehicle's modules report. It cannot put a battery under load, measure internal resistance, or watch the alternator's ripple, because those need a direct electrical connection at the posts. The Voltcheck Pro does that part. Together they cover the whole job: this tester confirms the battery, starter and alternator; the scanner registers the new battery and clears the codes.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can it tell me whether the problem is the battery, the starter or the alternator?

Yes, that is the point of the three tests. The battery test checks the battery on its own. The cranking test shows whether voltage holds up while the starter draws. The charging test shows whether the alternator is putting voltage back and whether its output is clean.

Can I test a dead battery?

The tester powers on from as little as 1.5 V, so it will read a deeply discharged battery. A very flat battery may report GOOD RECHARGE; charge it fully and retest to get a true health reading.

Does it work on 24 V trucks?

Yes. Battery, cranking and charging tests run on 24 V systems used in heavy trucks, buses and equipment.

Does it work on AGM and gel batteries, and on hybrids?

Yes. Select the battery type before the test so the algorithm matches the chemistry. On hybrids it tests the 12 V auxiliary battery, not the high voltage pack.

How accurate is it?

It is a conductance tester, the same method used by the testers at parts stores and dealerships. Expect readings within a few hundredths of a volt of the vehicle's own gauge and a CCA result that matches a professional unit closely enough to make the same replace or keep decision. Clean posts and a rested battery give the most repeatable numbers.

Will it drain my battery?

No. It draws only a tiny current while connected, and the test itself takes seconds.

Does it come with instructions?

Yes, a printed manual and quick start guide, and the two minute procedure above is the whole workflow. Call 1-888-959-4265 or email support@youcanic.com if you get stuck.

What is the warranty and return policy?
