Full Access To 2018 And Newer Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep And RAM. No AutoAuth. No Subscription.
The YOUCANIC FCA 12+8 adapter plugs in behind the Security Gateway Module so your scan tool can reach every module the gateway blocks: ABS bleeding, airbag, transmission, body, steering, active tests and resets. Works with YOUCANIC, Autel, Launch, Topdon, XTOOL, Foxwell and any other scan tool with a standard OBD2 connector.
Why Your Scan Tool Says "Unable To Communicate" On A Newer Jeep
Starting with the 2018 model year, FCA (now Stellantis) put a Security Gateway Module between the OBD2 port and the rest of the vehicle. The gateway lets any tool read codes and live data, but it blocks writes: no clearing codes in most modules, no ABS bleed, no active tests, no resets, no adaptations. The tool reports "device unable to communicate with the control unit" or simply shows the function greyed out.
There are two ways through. AutoAuth is a paid online registration, about $50 a year for a DIYer and more for a shop, and it only works with tools that have licensed it and only while you have internet at the car. The 12+8 adapter goes around the gateway physically. You unplug the two connectors on the gateway module, plug them into the adapter, and plug your scan tool into the adapter's OBD2 socket. Every function your scan tool supports on that vehicle now works, offline, with no account and no fee.
YOUCANIC ships this adapter in the box with every UCAN-II Pro. This listing is for owners of other scan tools and for anyone who wants a spare for a second vehicle.
How To Install It
- Find the Security Gateway Module. On most models it sits above the OBD2 port behind the lower dash or kick panel on the driver's side, behind the glove box, or behind the radio. It is a small black box with two connectors: a 12 pin and an 8 pin.
- Key off. Unplug both connectors from the gateway module.
- Plug the two vehicle connectors into the matching 12 pin and 8 pin sockets on the adapter.
- Plug your scan tool, or its Bluetooth VCI, into the OBD2 socket on the adapter.
- Key on and run your scan. When you are done, unplug the adapter and reconnect the two connectors to the gateway module. Many owners leave the adapter installed permanently and route the OBD2 socket somewhere easy to reach.
Where the module is on common vehicles
Wrangler JL and Gladiator: behind the lower dash left of the steering column. Grand Cherokee WK2 and Durango: behind the glove box. Charger, Challenger and 300: behind the radio. RAM 1500 DT and HD: behind the lower dash near the OBD2 port. Pacifica: behind the glove box. Locations vary by year and trim; a one minute search for your model and "SGW location" will show the exact spot.

Why We Sell A Cable Instead Of A Subscription
You paid for the vehicle and for the scan tool. We do not think you should pay a third party every year for permission to use them together. YOUCANIC supports right to repair legislation and builds its tools around it: the UCAN-II Pro ships with this adapter instead of an AutoAuth dependency, and we sell the adapter to owners of any scan tool at the same price.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need a YOUCANIC scanner to buy or use this?
No. It works with any scan tool that has a standard OBD2 connector. YOUCANIC technical support covers the adapter itself; for questions about a specific function on another brand's tool, that brand's support is the right call.
Is this the same as AutoAuth?
It gets you the same access by a different route. AutoAuth is a paid online registration that unlocks the gateway through the internet, on tools that have licensed it. The adapter bypasses the gateway physically, costs nothing after purchase, and works offline on any tool.
Will it harm the vehicle or set a code?
No. The adapter passes the same signals the gateway would; it only removes the gateway's block on write commands while connected. Reconnect the gateway when you are done if you do not want to leave the adapter installed.
Can I leave it installed?
Many owners do, so the next scan takes seconds. Secure the adapter so the connectors cannot work loose, and keep in mind the gateway's security function is bypassed while it is in place.
My 2017 does not have a gateway. Do I need it?
No. If your scan tool can already clear codes in the ABS and airbag modules, the vehicle has no gateway and the adapter does nothing for you.
Does it work on the new Grand Cherokee WL, Wagoneer and Hornet?
Yes, these use the same 12 pin and 8 pin gateway connectors. Module location differs by model; see the install notes above.
What is the return policy?
