Genesis Diagnostic Scanners and Adapters

QUICK ANSWER FOR GENESIS OWNERS

  • For a Genesis, the YOUCANIC UCAN-II Pro is the full system scanner with lifetime free updates; the UCAN-GO reads engine codes only.
  • No Genesis in the coverage database needs an adapter; the UCAN-II Pro plugs into the 16 pin port under the dash.
  • On a Genesis the UCAN-II Pro runs HCU air bleeding mode, the EPB pad change mode before and after a pad job, steering angle sensor calibration, radar sensor alignment for SCC and AEB, resetting of auto trans adaptive values, wheel sensor ID writing for TPMS and the variant coding routines on the cluster, airbag and ESC modules.
  • The UCAN-II Pro does not teach smart keys, work on the immobilizer or reflash modules on a Genesis; those need the dealer tool with Hyundai server access.
  • The Hyundai and Genesis coverage database, USA region, lists the G70 (IK), G80 (DH and RG3, plus the electrified RG3 EV), G90 (HI and RS4), GV60 (JW1 EV), GV70 (JK1 and electrified), GV80 (JX1), the Genesis coupe (BK) and the Genesis sedan (BH and DH).
  • You can rent the UCAN-II Pro for a week with a refundable deposit, and every purchase has 31 day returns with no questions asked.

Written by the YOUCANIC technicians in Towson, Maryland, from the UCAN-II Pro coverage database and our own shop work. Updated October 24, 2026.

A Genesis carries Hyundai electronics with more of everything: more radars, more cameras, an electric parking brake, electronic suspension and a smart key system, and the coverage database behind the UCAN-II Pro keeps Hyundai and Genesis in one USA region list with the same module names and the same routines. The parts store code reader sees the engine and nothing else, so the ESC light after an alignment, the parking brake that will not release for pads and the radar that needs aligning after a windshield all end up at the dealer. The tools below are what we use in our own shop in Maryland to reach every module on a Genesis and run those routines. The database lists the G70, G80, G90, GV60, GV70 and GV80 lines plus the earlier Genesis coupe and sedan. Pick by what you need to do.

Which Scanner Do I Need For A Genesis?

CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ONLY
YOUCANIC UCAN-GO Bluetooth OBD2 adapter with live gauge dashboard on a phone

UCAN-GO

Reads and clears engine codes from your phone and gives you a live gauge dashboard. It does not see the ABS/ESC, airbag, transaxle, EPB or body modules, and it cannot calibrate a sensor. Right if the only light you care about is the engine one.

EVERY MODULE, EVERY SERVICE FUNCTION
YOUCANIC UCAN-II Pro 7 inch tablet scanner with wireless Bluetooth VCI adapter

UCAN-II Pro

Full system, bidirectional, lifetime free updates. Reads and clears every control unit, runs active tests and the Genesis service functions: HCU air bleeding, EPB pad change mode, steering angle and G sensor calibration, radar sensor alignment, transaxle adaptive reset, TPMS sensor ID writing, variant coding. The tool to own if you keep a Genesis running.

ONE JOB THIS MONTH
Rent the YOUCANIC UCAN-II Pro full system diagnostic scanner

Rent the UCAN-II Pro for a week

Same scanner, shipped both ways free, with a refundable deposit that comes back when the scanner does. For the one parking brake job, radar alignment or airbag code you need done once.

No Adapter Needed On A Genesis

Every Genesis in the coverage database plugs straight into the 16 pin port under the dash. There is no round connector under the hood and no security gateway adapter to buy. The current cars carry an IGPM integrated gateway power control module, and the database lists the modules on both sides of it for the scanner.

If the tablet cable comes up short on a GV80 or a G90, the 22 inch OBD2 extension cable solves it. Functions still vary by model, engine and year, so check your exact vehicle before you order.

What The UCAN-II Pro Does On A Genesis

  • ✓ Reads and clears codes in every control unit of the Hyundai and Genesis module set: ENG engine, A/T transaxle, AB airbag, ABS/ESC, CLU cluster, ECS electronic control suspension, ELSD, EPS motor driven power steering, EPB electric parking brake, F CMR front view camera, FR front radar, RCR rear corner radar, HUD, IBU BCM body control, IBU TPMS, IBU SMK, IGPM gateway, ODS occupant detection, AVN audio video navigation, AMP, WPC wireless charger and more. A 2023 vehicle in this database lists 24 of them
  • ✓ HCU Air bleeding mode in the ABS/ESC module after a caliper, line or hydraulic unit replacement, plus Longitudinal G sensor calibration and the ESC auto detected configuration and reset
  • ✓ EPB PAD Change mode (Before change) and PAD Change mode (After change) for rear pads and rotors, plus EPB Variant coding after a module replacement
  • ✓ Steering angle sensor (SAS) calibration, EPS Type recognition and G-Sensor calibration after an alignment, a steering rack or a sensor replacement
  • ✓ Radar sensor alignment (SCC/AEB) after a windshield, bumper or radar replacement, so smart cruise and emergency braking look where they should
  • ✓ Resetting auto trans adaptive values and AT Adaptation mode, and the Oil Pressure characteristics input after a TCU, transaxle or solenoid valve replacement
  • ✓ Engine routines: Evap. Leakage test, ETC Test, ISG Test, Resetting adaptive values, Read VIN and Write VIN, Alternator test, Integrated thermal module coolant filling mode, Assembly check after an ECU replacement
  • ✓ Body and comfort: ACU and CLU Variant coding, Service reminder setting, A/C Compressor Test, Pressure Sensor Characteristics Input, Body sensor reset, PODS Reset and the Pass. Airbag realtime info, Vehicle name writing, User option
  • ✓ Live data with graphing and recording, plus TPMS: TPMS Test, Wheel sensor ID writing and TPMS Mode configuration from the tablet, and programming of the U360 replacement sensor

Service Functions By Job On A Genesis

On the tablet you pick the control unit, then the function category, then the routine. These are the routines the Hyundai and Genesis coverage database lists under the Special Function category, grouped by the job you are doing, with Active Test on the module set alongside. Names are as they appear on the tablet. Coverage varies by model and year, so check yours before you order.

Job Routines in the coverage database Where it lives on the tablet

What The Scanner Sees On A Genesis

Two vehicles pulled from the Hyundai and Genesis coverage database, with the control units the UCAN-II Pro lists on each. Every unit gets fault codes, live data and, where the database shows it, active tests and special functions.

Vehicle in the database Control units Examples of what it lists
2023 Hyundai Kona N 2.0 T-GDI (same database family) 24 A/C (Air Conditioner), A/T (Transaxle), AB (Airbag), ABS/ESP, AMP (Amplifier), AVN (Audio Video Navigation), CLU (Cluster Module), ECS (Electronic Control Suspension), ELSD (Electronic Limited Slip Differential), ENG (Engine), EPS (Motor Driven Power Steering), ESG (Electronic Sound Generator), F CMR (Front View Camera), FR (Front Radar), HUD (Head Up Display), IAU (Identity Authentication Unit), IBU BCM (Body Control Module), IBU TPMS, IGPM (Integrated Gateway Power Control Module), ODS (Occupant Detection Sensor), RCR (Rear Corner Radar), RVM (Rear View Monitor), SMK (Smart Key Unit), WPC (Wireless Power Charger)
2005 Hyundai XG 3.5 DOHC (same database family) 6 A/T (Transaxle), AB (Airbag), ABS (Anti Lock Brake), ENG (Engine), IMMO (Immobilizer), TCS (Traction Control)

Both samples are Hyundais because Genesis shares the Hyundai database and its module naming; a GV80 or a G90 carries the same families of units with more radars, cameras and seat modules, and the coverage checker shows the exact list for your year.

Symptom, Then The Routine That Fixes It

  • Rear pads on a Genesis with the electric parking brake: PAD Change mode (Before change) to retract the motors, then PAD Change mode (After change) when the pads are in.
  • Spongy pedal after a caliper, line or hydraulic unit replacement: HCU Air bleeding mode in the ABS/ESC module cycles the pump and valves while you bleed.
  • ESC light or a steering angle code after an alignment or steering work: Steering angle sensor (SAS) calibration, and G-Sensor calibration if the sensor was disturbed.
  • Smart cruise or emergency braking warning after a windshield, bumper or radar replacement: Radar sensor alignment (SCC/AEB).
  • Harsh or delayed shifts after a transaxle fluid service or a valve body: Resetting auto trans adaptive values, then AT Adaptation mode and a relearn drive.
  • Tire pressure light after new sensors: Wheel sensor ID writing, or program the U360 sensor to the old ID first, then TPMS Test.

What It Will Not Do, So You Know Before You Buy

Smart key teaching, immobilizer and password work, module reflashing and anything else that needs a live connection to the Hyundai server are dealer tool jobs, and no aftermarket scanner does them. For diagnosis, live data, active tests, calibrations, variant coding and the service functions above, which is what most owners and independent shops actually do week to week, the UCAN-II Pro covers it at one price with no renewal fee. Functions vary by model, engine and year, so check your car or email support@youcanic.com with your VIN and the function you need before you order.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I do rear pads on my Genesis G70 or GV70 with the electric parking brake?

Yes. PAD Change mode (Before change) in the EPB module retracts the motors so the pistons can be pushed back, and PAD Change mode (After change) sets them again when you are done. The parking brake guide walks through it.

Does my 2021 Genesis GV80 need an adapter?

No. Every Genesis in the coverage database plugs straight into the 16 pin port, gateway module included.

Will it align the front radar on my G80 after a windshield or bumper replacement?

Yes. Radar sensor alignment (SCC/AEB) is in the database for the Hyundai and Genesis family, run from the driver assistance module with the target set up as the procedure asks.

Can it bleed the ABS on my Genesis sedan after a brake line?

Yes. HCU Air bleeding mode in the ABS/ESC module cycles the hydraulic unit while you work the bleeders, and the ABS bleeding guide shows the sequence.

Does it program Genesis smart keys?

No. Smart key teaching and immobilizer work need the dealer tool with Hyundai server access. The UCAN-II Pro does diagnosis, live data, active tests, calibrations, variant coding and the service functions listed above.

Can I rent it for one job?

Yes. The rental is a one week rental plus a refundable deposit that comes back when the scanner does, shipped free both ways. Most Genesis renters want a parking brake job, a radar alignment or an airbag light cleared.

How do I know my exact car and function are covered?

Use the coverage checker by model, year and engine in the USA region, or call 1-888-959-4265, Monday to Friday 9 AM to 4 PM Eastern, and a technician will tell you plainly. If it does not do what you need, we will say so. Every scanner also comes with 31 day returns, no questions asked.
