Mercury Diagnostic Scanners and Adapters

QUICK ANSWER FOR MERCURY OWNERS

  • For a Mercury, the YOUCANIC UCAN-II Pro is the full system scanner with lifetime free updates; the UCAN-GO reads engine codes only.
  • No Mercury needs an adapter; the UCAN-II Pro plugs into the 16 pin port under the dash on every Mercury in the Ford coverage database.
  • On a Mercury the UCAN-II Pro runs the Ford service functions: ABS Service Bleed, IVD Initialization Sequence, Steering Wheel Position Sensor Calibration, Clear Transmission Adaptive Tables, Reset KAM, Power Balance, Relative Compression and Passenger System Reset.
  • The UCAN-II Pro does not program Mercury keys through PATS and does not reflash modules; those need the Ford server through IDS or FDRS.
  • Mercury sits inside the Ford coverage database with the Grand Marquis, Marauder, Mariner, Milan, Montego, Monterey, Mountaineer, Sable, Cougar, Mystique, Tracer and Villager; a 2011 Milan shows 18 control units and a 2012 Mariner 15.
  • You can rent the UCAN-II Pro for a week with a refundable deposit, and every purchase has 31 day returns with no questions asked.

Written by the YOUCANIC technicians in Towson, Maryland, from the UCAN-II Pro coverage database and our own shop work. Updated October 24, 2026.

Mercury closed after the 2011 model year, but a Grand Marquis, a Mariner or a Milan is a Ford underneath, with the same modules, the same service functions and the same OBD port as the Crown Victoria, Escape or Fusion it was built beside. The Ford coverage database behind the UCAN-II Pro lists Ford, Lincoln and Mercury as one family, and the Mercury folder runs from the 1995 Grand Marquis to the 2012 Mariner. The tools below are what we use in our own shop in Maryland to reach every module on a Mercury, bleed the ABS, reset the transmission adaptive tables and clear the lights a parts store code reader cannot touch. Pick by what you need to do.

Which Scanner Do I Need For A Mercury?

CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ONLY
YOUCANIC UCAN-GO Bluetooth OBD2 adapter with live gauge dashboard on a phone

UCAN-GO

Reads and clears engine codes from your phone and gives you a live gauge dashboard. It does not see ABS, airbag, transmission or body modules, and it cannot run a bleed or a reset. Right if the only light you care about is the engine one.

EVERY MODULE, EVERY SERVICE FUNCTION
YOUCANIC UCAN-II Pro 7 inch tablet scanner with wireless Bluetooth VCI adapter

UCAN-II Pro

Full system, bidirectional, lifetime free updates. Reads and clears every control unit, runs the active tests and the Ford service functions on a Mercury: ABS service bleed, IVD initialization, steering sensor calibration, transmission adaptive table reset, KAM reset, power balance and relative compression, passenger seat system reset, TPMS sensor training. The tool to own if you keep a Mercury running.

ONE JOB THIS MONTH
Rent the YOUCANIC UCAN-II Pro full system diagnostic scanner

Rent the UCAN-II Pro for a week

Same scanner, shipped both ways free, with a refundable deposit that comes back when the scanner does. For the one ABS bleed, transmission reset or airbag code you need done once.

No Adapter Needed On A Mercury

Every Mercury in the coverage database plugs straight into the 16 pin port under the dash. No adapter to buy, so the UCAN-II Pro is the whole kit. The port sits under the dash to the left of the steering column on most of these cars; the 22 inch OBD2 extension cable brings the VCI out where you can see its light.

Functions still vary by model, engine and year, so check your exact car before you order. On the tablet, Mercury models are listed under the Ford brand folder as Mercury, next to Ford and Lincoln.

What The UCAN-II Pro Does On A Mercury

  • ✓ Reads and clears codes in every control unit: 18 modules on a 2011 Milan, 15 on a 2012 Mariner and 8 on a 2011 Grand Marquis, from the PCM, ABS and RCM restraint module to the PSCM steering, OCS passenger seat, 4X4M, GEM/SJB junction box, APIM Sync, PAM parking aid and the SODL and SODR blind spot modules (the table below lists them)
  • ✓ Engine checks: Power Balance, Relative Compression, Misfire Test, Misfire Monitor Neutral Profile Correction, Ignition Test, Fuel System Test, Fuel Economy Test, EVAP (Evaporative Emission System) Test, ETB (Electronic Throttle Body) Check, Reset KAM (Keep Alive Memory) for the PCM, and the OBD test modes
  • ✓ Clear Transmission Adaptive Tables after a fluid service or a valve body job, with Halt, Resume and Stop Use of Transmission Adaptive Learning and Transmission Solenoid Body IDN (Identification) after a solenoid body replacement
  • ✓ Brakes and stability: ABS (Antilock braking system) Service Bleed after a line, caliper or hydraulic unit job, and IVD (Interactive Vehicle Dynamics) Initialization Sequence after a stability sensor or module replacement
  • ✓ Steering: Steering Wheel Position Sensor Calibration and Steering Torque Sensor Trim on the electric power steering Milan and Mariner
  • ✓ Grand Marquis rear air suspension: Pneumatic Test and Accurate Trim Test on the VDM vehicle dynamics module
  • ✓ Body and electrical: Passenger System Reset / OCS Reset after a passenger seat or sensor job, Charging System Test, Power Window Initialization, Infotainment Display Test, Audio Speaker Walkaround Test and Tones Test on the Sync cars
  • ✓ TPMS: TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System) Sensor Training Mode after new sensors, and programs the U360 replacement sensor from the tablet before you train it
  • ✓ Live data with graphing and recording and active tests on every module in the Ford database

Service Functions By Job On A Mercury

On the tablet you pick the control unit, then the function category, then the routine. Ford's database files its service functions by group, Powertrain, Chassis, Body and Electrical, with the module in the path, so that is how they are shown here. These are the routines the coverage database lists for the sampled Mercury models, grouped by the job you are doing. Names are as they appear on the tablet. Coverage varies by model, engine and year, so check yours before you order.

What The Scanner Sees On A Mercury

Three vehicles pulled from the coverage database, with the control units the UCAN-II Pro lists on each. Every unit gets fault codes, live data and, where the database shows it, active tests and service functions.

Vehicle in the database Control units Examples of what it lists
2011 Mercury Milan 3.0L 4V 18 PCM Powertrain Control Module, ABS Antilock braking system, RCM Restraint Control Module, OCS Occupant Classification System Module, PSCM Power Steering Control Module, 4X4M 4X4 Control Module, GEM/SJB Generic Electronic Module / Smart Junction Box, IPC Instrument Panel Control Module, HVAC, PAM Parking Aid Module, SODL and SODR Side Obstacle Detection Control Modules, APIM Accessory Protocol Interface Module, ACM Audio Control Module, DSP Digital Signal Processing Module, FCIM Front Controls Interface Module, FDIM Front Display Interface Module, GPSM Global Positioning System Module
2012 Mercury Mariner 3.0L 4V 15 PCM, ABS, RCM, OCS, PSCM, 4X4M, GEM/SJB, IC Instrument Cluster, HVAC, PAM, APIM, ACM, FCIM, FDIM, GPSM
2011 Mercury Grand Marquis 4.6L 2V 8 PCM Powertrain Control Module, ABS Antilock braking system, RCM Restraint Control Module, VDM Vehicle Dynamics Module (the rear air suspension), LCM Lighting Control Module, IC Instrument Cluster, HVAC, DDM Drivers Door Module

Symptom, Then The Routine That Fixes It

  • Spongy pedal after a brake line, caliper or ABS hydraulic unit replacement: ABS (Antilock braking system) Service Bleed under Chassis, Braking.
  • Traction control or stability light after an alignment or a steering rack on a Milan or Mariner: Steering Wheel Position Sensor Calibration, then IVD (Interactive Vehicle Dynamics) Initialization Sequence.
  • Harsh or late shifts after a transmission fluid service or a solenoid body: Clear Transmission Adaptive Tables, and Transmission Solenoid Body IDN (Identification) when the body was replaced.
  • Rough idle or a dead cylinder you cannot find: Power Balance and Relative Compression under Powertrain, then Reset KAM after the repair.
  • Airbag light after a passenger seat, track or sensor job: Passenger System Reset / OCS Reset under Body, Restraints.
  • Grand Marquis sitting low at the rear: Pneumatic Test and Accurate Trim Test on the VDM vehicle dynamics module to prove the compressor, solenoid and height sensor before you buy parts.

What It Will Not Do, So You Know Before You Buy

Module programming and reflashing, PATS key programming and anything else that needs a live connection to the Ford server are dealer jobs through IDS or FDRS, and no aftermarket scanner does them. For diagnosis, live data, active tests and the service functions above, which is what keeps a 15 year old Mercury on the road week to week, the UCAN-II Pro covers it at one price with no renewal fee. Functions vary by model, engine and year, so check your car or email support@youcanic.com with your VIN and the function you need before you order.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the UCAN-II Pro still cover a Mercury now that the brand is gone?

Yes. Mercury lives inside the Ford coverage database next to Ford and Lincoln, with the same module list and the same service functions as the Ford it was built beside. The Ford page and the Lincoln page show the wider function list for that database.

Will it bleed the ABS on my Grand Marquis or Mariner after a brake line?

Yes. ABS (Antilock braking system) Service Bleed is listed under Chassis, Braking on the 2011 Grand Marquis and the 2012 Mariner in the database, and the ABS bleeding guide walks through the pedal and valve sequence.

Can it reset the transmission on my Milan after a fluid service?

Yes. Clear Transmission Adaptive Tables is in the Powertrain, Transmission menu, with Halt and Resume Transmission Adaptive Learning and the Solenoid Body IDN entry for a replaced valve body. The transmission adaptation guide covers the order.

Does it program Mercury keys or PATS?

No. Key and PATS programming and module flashing need the Ford server. The UCAN-II Pro does diagnosis, live data, active tests and the service functions listed above.

Can I rent it for one job?

Yes. The rental is a one week rental plus a refundable deposit that comes back when the scanner does, shipped free both ways. Most Mercury renters want an ABS bleed, a transmission reset or an airbag light cleared.

How do I know my exact car and function are covered?

Use the coverage checker by model, engine and year, or call 1-888-959-4265, Monday to Friday 9 AM to 4 PM Eastern, and a technician will tell you plainly. If it does not do what you need, we will say so. Every scanner also comes with 31 day returns, no questions asked.
